Sample Data Maker

Show what you built without showing real data. Mask a spreadsheet so names, IDs, numbers and dates are fake but still match across sheets and files, or make a sample model for an industry as DAX functions you paste into Power BI. No AI needed.

Step1

What do you want to do?

Everything happens in this page. Your files are never uploaded or saved.

Step2

Load your files

Every sheet is a table, with its column names in the first row. Load every file that shares keys at the same time, so the links can be kept.

Drop files here or browse .xlsx, .xlsm, .xls, .csv, .tsv
Step3

Check each column

The page guessed what each column holds. Change any that are wrong. Keep as is is right for things that aren’t private, such as categories, regions or status.

What each choice does
  • Fake ID: digits and letters are swapped, the shape and any shared start (such as CUST-) stay. Each ID gets its own fake one.
  • Person name, Company name, City, Street address, Phone: made-up values. The same original always gets the same fake value, in every file.
  • Email: built from the fake person name in the same row when there is one, at example.com.
  • Numbered labels: each different value becomes the column name and a number, such as Product 12.
  • Scale numbers: the whole column is multiplied by a hidden factor, with a little noise per value, so totals and trends keep their shape. Totals that should add up across columns won’t exactly.
  • Shift dates: every date in every file moves by the same hidden number of whole weeks, so weekdays, gaps and seasons stay true.
Step4

Links between tables

Linked columns get the same fake values, so a key in one sheet still finds its row in another. These were found from matching values. Untick any that aren’t real links.

Step5

Check and download

Each file you loaded comes back as an .xlsx with the same sheets and columns. Values only: formulas, charts and pivot tables aren’t copied.

The same seed and the same files give the same fake values every time. Keep the seed to yourself: with it and your real files, someone could work out the hidden factor and date shift.
