Model Compare

What changed in your model between two exports: tables, columns, measures and relationships, with DAX differences side by side and renames recognized. Copy the result as release notes, a change log or a list for Excel. No AI.

Step1

The model now

The model export from after your changes. It reads the model’s definition, not your data.

The model export query (the same one the other toolkit pages use)
  1. In Power BI Desktop, open DAX query view, paste this query and select Run.
  2. Above the results grid, select Copy, then paste below.
DAX query: model export

Step2

The model before

Each time you save a new export on the home page, or paste one into any tool, the toolkit keeps the one it replaces. Pick one of those, or paste or open an export you saved yourself.

Tip: before you start changing a model, . It’s your “before” even in another browser.

Step3

What changed

Check reports may break visuals or other reports on this model. Change changes results or adds something. Housekeeping is tidy-up: folders, descriptions, hiding, layout.

Step4

Write it up

Release notes for a pull request, a change log or an email, grouped by importance.

Release notes (Markdown)

Markdown pastes cleanly into Azure DevOps, GitHub and Teams. Plain text suits email.
