KPI Visualizer

Describe a KPI, or a row of them, and compare ways to show it: cards, bullet charts, sparklines, progress bars, waffles and more, each with when to use it and how to build it. SVG measures come as a TMDL script, and reusable card functions let every KPI share one card design. No AI needed.

Step1

Connect your model

With your model, you pick KPIs from your measures (including ones in a measures table) and every name is checked before you copy the script.

The model export query (the same one the other toolkit pages use)
  1. In Power BI Desktop, open DAX query view, paste this query and select Run.
  2. Above the results grid, select Copy, then paste below.

Step2

Your KPIs

A KPI needs a number, a meaning (is it good or bad?) and some context. A target or a comparison such as last year gives it meaning. The numbers are only for the previews; the DAX uses your measures.

Step3

Ways to show it

Ways that fit what you want readers to get come first. Pick one to see how to build it.

Step4

Colors

Status colors are good, neutral and bad, the way Excel’s conditional formatting shows them. Card colors are everything else: background, text, lines and the accent. The previews above and the measures you build use them all. Change any color, or take them from your theme. An arrow always goes with a status color, so it never relies on color alone.

Build it:
